Hendon RFC are a club on the up and up . Six months has seen a lot of changes at the club . First and foremost the new coach, Phil Smith, a level 3 coach has come in and helped transform the playing style and training methods. Players have certainly responded with over 20 players at every Wednesday night coaching session . A new defensive formation and a willingness to move the ball has certainly paid dividends as the result against UCS evidenced . 4 tries all scored by the back 3 in dreadful conditions meant that Hendon go in to the Christmas break in 6th place. With new players William Theaker , Luke Pollard, James Meredith, Rob Casey, Gabriele Peraldo and Ross Williams all settling into the senior side competition for places in the new year will be fierce . From 13 players at the first pre-season session the club has made tremendous progress. Despite losing influential 1st XV captain Cian Hynes and vice captain Mike Culhane the side have improved week on week and been competitive in every game they have played .
The second team continue to flourish under the captaincy of Aidan Power, whose enthusiastic nature has ensured a handy 3rd place in the league.
Off the pitch the club has finally got around to buying a new scrum machine thanks to sponsorship from JAMM Recruitment. The pack has certainly improved its set piece this year with Paul Julian and Nick Andrews ensuring the tight five do the basics well.
New kit suppliers VX3 (club shop now open https://www.vx-3.com/shop/Club/Hendon-RFC) have provided excellent playing kit and leisurewear and the club are indebted to LMC Drylining, The Claddagh Ring, The Bodhran and JAMM Recruitment. New 1st XV changing rooms appeared over the summer with Club Chairman Malcolm Watts and John McCarthy working hard to give the players a more professional home . Even Dick Best (former coach Harlequins, England and Lions) was impressed when the former players turned up for a reunion.
With a television appearance on BT sport on the second of January, a game under floodlights at Allianz Park in February and the first club lunch for many a year the future looks bright for Hendon .
