Hendon’s powerful forwards set the platform for a bonus point win with 12 tries and 8 conversions maintaining their position at the top of the table.

Although the scoreline reflects a one-sided match, Verulamians kept up the pressure on the home outfit. Yet, Hendon’s defence held the visitors out whilst 15 man rugby - with interplay between Hendon backs and forwards - continually kept the scoreboard ticking.

Hendon played down the slope in the first period and JT Moncher on the wing was first to score a Cian Hynes converted try, completing a well run backline move on 6 minutes. Almost immediately thereafter Verulamians were offside as Hendon attacked, Hynes took a quick tap penalty and Pavilonis Vytantas ( Vytas) powered over to score for Hynes to add the conversion, 14-0.

Verulamians then mounted an up-field attack into Hendon territory, but good defence kept the visitors scoreless for 15 minutes until another back line move from a midfield lineout allowed left winger Will Theaker to score in the corner, converted by Hynes, 21-0.

Hendon prop forward Nick Andrews was next to score from a penalty lineout, Hynes adding the conversion making the score 28-0 and Hendon had the bonus point just before the break.

Into the second period Hendon were soon on the attack, with Rob Casey breaking through the Verulamian defence to set up Hynes to score in the corner. 33-0.

Next over the whitewash was man of the match Vytas for his second try, coming from another penalty line out with Hynes again converting to make it 40-0.

An individual run by outside centre Nigel Toafa set up the next score, which after three set scrums saw Dan Watterson score in the corner 45-0. Chris Kyingi throughout the game had several excellent carries, one allowed Casey to score and extend the lead to 52-0 with the Hynes conversion.

Into the last quarter of the match the visitors found it difficult to stop the interplay across the park from Hendon, with tries coming from Aiden McCarthy (converted Watterson), Rob Page, Nick Andrews for his second (converted Watterson) and to finish off Billy Burrell with Watterson converting on the final whistle.

Meanwhile on the other pitch in a close fought, fast paced match, Hendon 2nds came up just short in the final minuted against Enfield Ignations - losing by 19 points to 20.

This Saturday Hendon 1sts are away in the League to Bank of England at their sports ground in Roehampton (South West London). The 2nds will be playing a friendly game as there is not a scheduled Merit Table match
