The home outfit were playing up the Copthall slope in the first period with their forwards combining well with a 10 minutes offensive of rucks and mauls in Thamesians' territory culminating in a final maul to the try line and prop Gabriel Murilo diving through to score an unconverted try.
Hendon dominance continued with many phases of play but the Thamesians' defence held firm. On 20 minutes as Hendon were setting up a further attacking move via the backline, the ball went loose from a tackle, appeared to be knocked on by the Thamesians' tackler who then charged down the loose ball slipped to his winger leaving Hendon waiting for the whistle as Thamesians scored an easy try under the posts taking them into the lead 5-7. Hendon rallied however and finished the period again on the visitor's line with a Hendon try disallowed for a double movement.
From the second half restart Hendon kept Thamesians in their own territory as they attempted to run at the well drilled Hendon backline and this resulted in a pass which was intercepted by Toby Ikwueke who scored under the post and Cian Hynes slotted over the conversion for a 12 points to 7 lead.
From the restart Hendon's Rob Page was dominant getting possession for Nick Andrews to carry to the Thamesians' 22 before passing to Chris Kiyingi who broke through two defenders to score Hendon’s third try also converted by Hynes for a 19 points to 7 lead.
Into the last 10 minutes a tiring Hendon were on the backfoot in defence with Thamesians eventually pushing over to score a converted try. A late long penalty by Hynes for Hendon to secure a two score advantage just went widfour but the final whistle was not long coming and Hendon gained a valuable four League point win.
Hendon’s coach Phil Smith commented “ The Team played as a complete unit today with the right attitude and discipline with only a few penalties against compared with the last couple of matches. Now we must work on match fitness for future success in this most competitive League."
